When German-Austrian Romanticism meets Nordic poetry, and Classical rigor collides with South American tango — on October 10, Chengdu City Concert Hall will host the "Colorful Strings" cello and piano chamber music gala. Germany-trained piano doctorate Yang Yang and renowned Korean cellist Park Keon-woo, both heirs to the "dialogic performance" tradition of the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, will use the collision of bow and keys to unfold a musical canvas spanning centuries and continents.

Two masters preside —

not merely a performance, but a "soul-level dialogue"

Pianist Yang Yang, a "seasoned piano educator": a Germany-trained piano doctorate who has won multiple international chamber music prizes in Italy, France, Sweden, and elsewhere, with a performance career spanning Europe, America, and Asia. Her playing allows piano and cello to speak as equals — delicate passages flow like a breeze across a lake, while passionate ones surge like a waterfall.

Cellist Park Keon-woo, "a perennial champion on the international stage": the first Korean cellist ever to win a prize at the Prague Spring International Music Competition, and a laureate of multiple international competitions. Under his bow, the cello can sing Schubert's melancholy and dance Piazzolla's tango — he has been called by international media "a genius who tells stories with his instrument."

What makes this still more special is that both carry the "chamber music gene" of the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe — where there is no "lead and support," only piano and cello finding balance through collaboration and pursuing freedom through resonance. Like a brilliant conversation — word by word, every line landing right in the heart.

Four works, four lives —

from private emotion to worldwide celebration

Schumann: Adagio and Allegro, Op. 70: A Romantic-period work by Schumann for horn (or cello/viola) and piano, written in 1849, one of his representative mid-period compositions.

Schubert: Sonata in A minor ("Arpeggione Sonata"): Composed in 1824 for the arpeggione (a now-obsolete six-string bowed instrument) and piano; today performed mostly by cello or viola.

Grieg: Sonata in A minor, Op. 36: Grieg's only cello and piano sonata (1883), blending Norwegian folk style with Romantic technique.

Piazzolla: Le Grand Tango: Composed in 1982 for Russian cellist Rostropovich, combining the passion of tango with classical musical structure.
